New Experiences at Minnesota Children’s Museum You Definitely Don’t Want to Miss Out On

Summer is here and if you’re like most parents, you plan to make the most out of every day. As you start checking off that summer bucket list, a visit to Minnesota Children’s Museum is one item you don’t want to skip.

There’s always something new to discover at Minnesota Children’s Museum, and this summer is no exception. In addition to the always popular laser maze, pretend town, water table and everything else you love, here are all the new things you’ll want to check out during your next visit.

New Special Exhibit: Game On!

Spin the wheel, roll the dice and get ready for this summer’s ultimate family game time. This all-new special exhibit, developed by the team at Minnesota Children’s Museum, brings the fun of gameplay to life in super-sized, super fun ways.

Think: A life-sized candy-themed board game (complete with costumes) where you become the game piece. Super swirly mini golf with wacky clubs. A quirky ping pong table and 3D Twister board. Mind-bending tabletop games like Wobble & Bobble and Ginebig.

And that’s just the beginning! Throughout the summer, the museum will add even more elements to the exhibit, like a giant castle tower and troll bridge, new characters to meet, a gameshow-style word game and even a fantasy quest layer that will make the life-sized board game even more epic.

Beyond all the giggles and friendly competition, this hands-on experience is learning wrapped in fun. Interactive games strengthen communication, collaboration and creative thinking skills while also building confidence and challenging muscles through big body movement. This brand-new special exhibit is open all summer and fall.

Imaginative Adventure Play

The museum’s Backyard gallery, known for its natural outdoor space, has been transformed into a dynamic, ever-changing free play experience for all ages. Surrounded by large structures, building materials and loose parts and props, visitors use their imaginations and creative thinking skills to create anything they can dream up.

In just the few weeks the Backyard has been open, we’ve seen some amazing creations – from a secret fort and a pretend pirate ship, to a family campsite and DIY musical instruments, to an all-out noodle battle and sled-pulling competition. This free-flowing experience is filled with open-ended play opportunities, meaning it’s different every time you step into the space!

More to Explore: New Experiences Added to Favorite Exhibits

Some favorite play areas of the museum are getting some exciting updates this summer. First, the Our World fire station is getting an overhaul. Don’t worry, the fire truck is staying right where it is. But the fire house will soon close its doors to make space for an all-new firefighter training center where visitors can crawl through a training tunnel filled with obstacles and get a hands-on feel for how heavy a firefighter’s gear really is.

The water side of Forces at Play will also be getting some new experiences for visitors to explore. Keep an eye out for things like fog bubbles, new bubble trays, a water wall and more to be added to the gallery around the popular car wash.
