2023 Opening Weekend

Our 2023 exhibit “Swedish Folk Painting Exhibition: Traditions and Innovations” opens the weekend of May 4-7 and displays work rooted in the various Swedish painted folk art traditions including contemporary and digital work inspired by traditional folk art.
The work reflects or is inspired by painting from the various areas of Sweden during the 18th and 19th centuries (1700 -1800) and includes Korgmalning (basket painting). The artwork is done on a variety of surfaces including paper, canvas, baskets, and wood.
Tours are held on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 AM, 1:00 PM, and 2:30 PM; and on Sunday at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
On Friday and Saturday during Opening Weekend, tours are free. Starting on Sunday, tickets are $10 per person ($9 Admission/Tour for Military – Active, Retired, and Veterans; and Time Travelers Reciprocal Members). Gammelgården Members, ASI Current Members, and Children under 12 are free. Reservations are not required.
On Saturday, May 6th, watch the craft and artisan demonstrators, visit the Artists & Crafters Fair, do hands-on activities for people of all ages, and tour the historic buildings.
Costumed members of the Living History Society of Minnesota demonstrate popular nineteenth-century games appropriate for adults and/or children. Participants have the opportunity to engage in a nineteenth-century game with members of the Society. Popular games of the period include: Graces, Tail of the Dog, Hopscotch, Marbles, Jump Rope, Croquet, and Barnyard Animals.
On Saturday from 5:00-7:00 p.m., there is a birthday party for Gammelgården – with a catered picnic dinner and birthday cake as well as music and fun activities. Bring your blanket and enjoy your dinner on the Gammelgården grounds, listen to music, and play old-fashioned games. This is a ticketed event.
The Butik gift shop is open Friday and Saturday from 10-4 and Sunday from 1-4.
