Cambodian New Year Celebration

April 13

This year, we welcome the Year of the Dragon with hope for the future and gratitude for the past. For our community, it is also a reflection of our culture and tradition. The purpose is to emphasize the importance of the following points:
– Preservation of Cambodian tradition and culture.
– Symbol of unity, equality, and friendship among Cambodian people.
– Occasion for people to see new days with hope and opportunity.
– Occasion to accumulate merits through charitable acts and meditation to purify the mind.
– Special occasion for children to show their gratitude to their parents, grandparents, and benefactors; to perform meritorious deeds in the memory of ancestors up to the seventh generation.
– Occasion for the members to be generous in supporting Buddhism and monasteries.

9:30 a.m. Alms offerings, memorial services, and dedication of merits; Homage to the triple gem and observance of the Five Precepts; Alms offering of food (lunch) to Buddhist monks and chanting of Blessings.
6:00 p.m. Ritual procession around the hillocks of sand representing Valukak Stupa; religious chanting and Dhamma talk

7:00 a.m. Offering of alms food (breakfast) to Buddhist monks
8:30 a.m. Homage to the triple gem and observance of the Five Precepts; Chanting of blessings to welcome the New Year; alms offerings Requesting memorial services in the memory of departed
10:20 a.m. Buddhist monks go on alms rounds, religious chanting of blessings, the proclamation of the New Year
1:25 p.m. Hoisting of Buddhist flag, singing of the hymn, a procession of Kabilmaha Prom’s head, Dhamma talk
1:45 p.m Culture performances by Wattanank troupe.
– Live entertainment and open mic in the event.
-Throughout the day, enjoy the many different food booths.
