Galleria Floral Experience – Into the Deep

Mark your calendars! This year’s Galleria Floral Experience, with gardens by Bachman’s, invites you to sink below the water’s surface and plunge into a technicolor dream from March 24 to April 7. Enjoy ocean-inspired blooms, vibrant colors, and surreal plants, all waving with the tide in this free, 15-day immersive experience.

Sink below the water’s surface and plunge into a technicolor dream. From March 24 to April 7, this year’s Galleria Floral Experience, with flowers by Bachman’s, will feature blooms inspired by the ocean’s wondrous flora and fauna. This free, 15-day experience will submerge the senses in vibrant colors, sea installations, as well as surreal plants and flowers, waving with the tide.

WHAT: Galleria’s “Into the Deep” Floral Experience with flowers by Bachman’s will offer guests a thoroughly immersive experience where sea-inspired floral sights and creative floor-to-ceiling installations will engage everyone’s sense of wonder and enjoyment.

FUN FACTS!

  • More than 100 different types of flowers, trees, and plants will be on display.
  • More than 3,000 bulbs are coaxed into early blooming by the experts at Bachman’s exclusively for this event. 
  • The plants are carefully prepared to bloom early in Bachman’s greenhouses, 20 minutes south of the Twin Cities. The plants start in their warm greenhouse seven weeks ahead of the show.
  • All flowering bulbs are replaced halfway through the show.
  •  The tallest tree in the Floral Experience stands at 12 feet. 
  • More than 20 blooming displays and vignettes will be located throughout Galleria.
  • Five semi trucks will transport the Floral Experience elements from Bachman’s indoor growing facilities to Galleria.
  • More than 20 garden designers, installers, and expert horticulturalists at Bachman’s work on preparing and installing the florals for this project. 
  • The bulbs travel 4,166 miles for the Floral Experience (from Holland to Minneapolis!). Some of the additional plants and blooms are cultivated in Florida, California, Ohio and South America and are imported for this event.
  • It’s FREE to visit the Floral Experience. This event is free to all Galleria visitors during regular Galleria operating hours from March 24 – April 7.
  • Mobile watering carts will be used to maintain and provide a fresh water source to the florals, plants, and trees.
  • It will take the Floral Experience installation team five overnights to bring the complete experience to life. 
  • All maintenance is done in the overnight hours throughout the 15-day event.

 FUN FINDS AT THIS YEAR’S FLORAL EXPERIENCE:

  • A fantastical octopus with arms up to 10 feet long
  • Floating jellyfish ranging from 8 to 13 feet tall
  • A larger-than-life oyster shell with an illuminated pearl
  • Two spectacularly tall seahorses
  • A totally claw-some garden 
  • Sumac branches, harvested from Bachman’s nursery, transformed into more than 50 coral-like sculptures
  • A wide variety of plant materials with hardiness zones ranging from 2 – 11 Minnesota’s new hardiness range is from zone 3 – 5, so this means there are some really warm-blooded plants from the tropics
  • There are more than eight different varieties of ferns in this year’s show. The foliage of the fern makes it look like it could be at home under the sea as well as above the ground
