About
North Mississippi Regional Park, spanning 67 acres along the western bank of the Mississippi River, offers a diverse range of outdoor experiences. Visitors can enjoy 5–6 miles of paved walking, biking, and on-leash dog trails that weave through prairie, woodland, and shoreline, forming part of Minneapolis’s Grand Rounds Scenic Byway and connecting to the Anoka County trail system. Situated north of 57th Avenue, the park includes a fishing pier and boat launch—fishing enthusiasts can cast for carp, catfish, and bass from an accessible dock, while paddlers can take advantage of kayak rentals through the Mississippi River Paddle Share program.
In the southern section, the park offers family-oriented amenities, including a playground, wading pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day), picnic tables, grills, shelters, restrooms, and free parking.
The Carl W. Kroening Interpretive (Nature) Center adds an educational dimension with interactive exhibits, adventure gear (such as binoculars, exploration backpacks, and butterfly nets), and guided programs ranging from bird-watching to children’s nature art and campfire nights. With benches, drinking fountains, ADA‑accessible paths, and a focus on native prairie restoration and wildlife habitat, the park is designed to be welcoming to all ages and abilities.
