April top 3: Green fun ideas

Earth Day (Saturday, April 18) is an opportunity to start a family tradition of going green, giving back, and getting out!

1. Unearth a variety of fun, green activities at the Minnesota Children’s Museum’s Earth Day Celebration. Parents can learn about green cleaning and get tips for reducing household waste while kids build a robot out of recycled materials. April 18. 10 a.m.–4 p.m. $8.95 per person. 651-225-6000 or MCM.org.

2. Drop your kids off at Eastman Nature Center for Kits & Cubs: Earth Day, where participants will learn about recycling while playing the trash toss game. A hike to pick up litter and a recycled art project (followed by an organic snack and story) round out the day. April 22, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. and April 23, 1–3 p.m. $7. For ages 4–5. Reservations: 763-694-7700 or ThreeRiversParkDistrict.org.

3. Stretch your legs for a good cause at the Minneapolis Recycle Run, which benefits Earth Day watershed cleanup efforts. The race kicks off at the Lake Harriet Bandshell. Families can bring their used running shoes and shirts to recycle on the spot! Sunday, April 19, 9 a.m. $10 for the kids half-mile run, $25 for the 5K. Register: MinneapolisParks.org.
