Girls on the Run: Coaches needed!

Girls on the Run Twin Cities started ten years ago with just 24 girls, six coaches, and two sites.

Today — due to the high demand for physical-activity-based youth development for girls — GOTR has grown to more than 3,000 girls at 200 Minnesota sites.

And that means the program is in need of more volunteer coaches — needed in these locations Anoka, Coon Rapids, Little Canada, North St Paul, and Oakdale to be exact.

GOTR’s 10-week program uses running as a medium to inspire girls in third through eighth grade to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Girls also learn critical life skills, team building, and community service.

“No running or coaching experience is required,” said GOTR Executive Director Mary Uran. “We bring the training and support, you bring life experiences, enthusiasm, and fun.”

Volunteer coaches facilitate research-based lessons to small teams of girls, who typically meet after school twice a week for 90 minutes. The program culminates with all teams participating in a celebratory 5K event in June.

Individuals must be 18 years old to serve as assistant coaches or 21 to serve as head coaches; men and women are encouraged to apply.

Programming starts in mid-March. Learn more at gotrtwincities.org.
