Dance, dance revolution!

What music rocks your family? We asked readers of our weekly e-newsletter, Minnesota Parent This Week, about their family’s favorite music. Here’s what you had to say.

I love kids music that is silly — crazy rhyming, repetition, and words. It really gets their attention and often teaches them a lesson. That’s one of the reasons I love “Yo Gabba Gabba.” Simple ditties like “Don’t Bite Your Friends” go a long way with little ones.
— Asa Thibodaux, Robbinsdale

My son loves Laurie Berkner band music. And for some reason he really loved the song “Fireflies” by Owl City!
— Jessica Simmons, W. St. Paul

Mostly what we listen to, but also They Might Be Giants kids music.
— Tonya, Winona

We will always love the Wiggles!
— Dawn Spaniol, St. Michael

My 7-year-old has graduated from Raffi and the Splatter Sisters to Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. My 4-year-old is already on board with her older sister, skipping the kiddie music altogether. Heartbreaking, since I love Raffi!
— Laurie Kocanda, Minneapolis

My favorite kids’ music is Dinosaur Sue.
— Kathy Tambornino, St. Paul

Bare Naked Ladies’ “Snacktime.”
— Michelle Briese, Burnsville

I despised children’s music until I found the Music Together program. I think I might like the music more than my kids! It’s very smart, sophisticated, accessible, culturally rich, and definitely not corny. The music has become a vital part of our family life!
— Leah Drury, Minneapolis

Barenaked Ladies kid’s album.
— Emily Palmer, Mounds View

I am very happy to say all kinds of music. We listen to jazz, rock, world, hip hop, oldies, alternative — basically anything. We encourage our kids to have an open ear to music.
