The best thing about Scholastic’s The Night Before Christmas DVD isn’t the fact that it offers seven different classic children’s stories to choose from. It’s not the fact that the stories are narrated in soothing tones by actors like Alfre Woodward and Anthony Edwards. It’s not even the fact that there’s a bonus story told entirely in Spanish. For me the most winning element of The Night Before Christmas is that the stories tackle a variety of holiday traditions ranging from Kwanzaa and Hanukkah to Christmas celebrated Mexican-style. Children will learn the traditions of various cultures and religions while delighting in stories about sharing, spending time with family, and passing on beliefs. A great way to expose children to how others honor their holiday traditions.
