Bring your family and join in the 17th annual celebration of arts and nature at Silverwood’s FIELD TRIP event taking place Saturday, September 12 from 12 to 4PM. This outdoor event is free, for all ages, and you may drop-in anytime.
AROUND THE VISITOR CENTER AND PATIO:
– Shop artwork from local makers with Minneapolis Craft Market.
– (1-3PM) Take part in guest artist, Amy Rice’s ‘Slow Stitch Mending with Linoleum Print Patches’ workshops – space and materials are limited, so be sure to stop by and sign up for slot! (1:00, 1:30, 2:00, or 2:30)
– (2-4PM) Join gallery artist, Kimberly Wetzel, to create artwork inspired by her current exhibition, “In the Sky” and learn about the materials and techniques she uses in her practice.
– Create your own miniature ‘welcome sign’ inspired by artist Emmett Winship Ramstad’s sculpture, ‘Vanishing Welcome’ and add it to our temporary communal installation in the park!
AT THE AMPHITHEATER AND GREAT LAWN:
– Enjoy live music performances by local artists Funk N Spuds (12:30PM) and Yellow Ostrich (2:30PM) in the outdoor amphitheater.
– Play on the Great Lawn! Spin some big hula hoops, play with the rainbow parachute, or challenge a friend to a game of giant Jenga, jumbo Scrabble, or bean bags.
– (12:30-3PM) Take a birds’ eye view on things and try our stilt walking with Silverwood’s Teen Arts Council!
– Food available for purchase from local vendors MN Dairy Lab and Dine-1-1
– Beverage options are available for purchase from Cocktail Collective.
ON THE ISLAND:
– (1PM and 3PM) Catch one of two performances of “100 Rivers: Signals of Repair” from interdisciplinary artist and choreographer, Victoria Bradford. 100 Rivers: Signals of Repair is an 18-month public art project that launched in Coastal Louisiana and is traveling upstream through communities along the Mississippi River as part of a watershed-wide initiative inviting reflection on our relationship to water. Installed across parks, Main Streets, and cultural sites, the project places 100 semaphore signal flags within the landscape, creating a distributed network of communication carried between body, place, and collective experience.
– Take part in a scavenger hunt with one of Silverwood’s naturalists to uncover hidden location across the island!
ALONG THE TRAIL:
– Visit Silverwood’s growing Nature Play Area, featuring a new outdoor performance feature by artist Tom Bierlein. Don a creature costume or put on a puppet show and let nature become your stage! Build, explore, and play with Silverwood staff and volunteers.
– Explore Silverwood’s self-guided trail features, highlighting points of interest such as sculpture, poetry, and natural history stops!
