Ofrenda Viewing

Join us at the Hennepin History Museum on October 29, 30, or 31 for our first-ever ofrenda (offering) installation during Days of the Dead, in collaboration with the Minnesota Latino Museum.

Minnesota-based Mexican culture bearer Margarita Sandoval will create a unique altar celebrating the Mexican tradition of Days of the Dead, with cempasúchil flowers (marigold), folk art calaveras (skulls), and offerings to the dead of food and drink.

This year, this altar will honor the 56 members of the Mexican Band of 1886, who were the first Mexicans who came to Minnesota to share arts and culture in a large-scale public way (two of whom are buried in Minneapolis).
This temporary installation will complement our exhibit, “The Mexican Band of 1886”, on view now.

The ofrenda will be on view during regular museum hours: 10-3 on Thursday and Friday, and 10-5 on Saturday. Admission to Hennepin History Museum is always pay-as-you-can.
