Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre Hosts First Ever Puppet Fashion Show

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre (HOBT) is ready to re-open the Avalon Theatre in Minneapolis (1500 E Lake St) with its first-ever Puppet Fashion Show each night from April 13 – 16.

The event will include an opening night soiree filled with glitz and glamour, taking materials like clothes, fur, and fabric, and bringing them to life through the art of puppetry. Instead of simply displaying the fashion or walking the runway, artists will transform their puppets while also telling a story. Whether it be by making a marionette perform quick outfit changes, crafting puppet fashion wrestlers, or even projecting shadow puppets on a flowing dress, this puppet cabaret will bring joy and entertainment to all ages. Each show runs from 7:30 – 9 p.m.

The Puppet Fashion Show will also include a pre-show fundraiser, The Puppet Gala on April 13. This includes a tour of the newly renovated second floor of the Avalon, a theatre that has been a south Minneapolis staple since 1937. Funds raised will help support HOBT’s innovative programming.

What’s happening with the In the Heart of the Beast?

They are  opening the Twin Cities’ first Puppet and Mask Lending Library on April 29. This hands-on opportunity will help kids and families embrace and participate in using puppets through a free checkout system, just as they would do with a book at the library. After the initial opening, the library will be open the first & third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Avalon Theatre, beginning May 6.
