We are excited to introduce you to local mom, Rachel Winter, who designs adorable apparel and children’s goods you have probably seen around town!
Tell us all about you and what inspired you to start your business and now storefront!
I grew up in Minnesota and as a child I always loved making art. Fast forward to 2008 and I decided to create Sweetpea and Co. as a creative outlet and an excuse to play around with fabric. At first I sewed children’s clothing and accessories and sold them on Etsy and at local markets. After I went back to school for graphic design, I used my new skills to create designs that I had locally printed on onesies and kid tees.
Tell us all about your business. What can parents/kids expect?
Sweetpea and Co. is about creating children’s goods that celebrate the joy and playfulness of childhood. You will find colorful clothing and accessories (for adults too!) that are positive, fun and nostalgic. I believe in using high quality materials so that these products can be passed down from one family to the next. Most of what you will find is also gender neutral which is helpful when picking out a gift for a baby on the way.
What do you love about the Twin Cities? Why is this a great community for local small businesses?
Everything from our parks, amazing restaurants, art and music scene, to the museums and more! There are lots of family-friendly activities as well. I can take my kids to the Minnesota Zoo or to a great local Thai restaurant. We are lucky to have a diverse mix of cultures and people here. Minnesotans have a lot of pride in their state, our history and what we value. One of those values is supporting community and local businesses. There is a lot of love for these places and an understanding of the benefits they provide.
What is the best way for the Minnesota Parent community to support Sweetpea & Co?
Stop in the shop and say hello! I love hearing about the new grandchild or a friend’s first baby on the way. I can help with your questions about sizing (go up) and distract your kiddo with some free coloring supplies so you can browse. Also, engage with us on social media and spread the word to your friends and family. Word of mouth helps!

How does your business inspire parents and their families?
You will always find something meaningful, cute and thoughtful here. A book that makes you laugh or a onesie that makes you smile.
Tell us about you! Your family, why you love being a parent. What brings you joy?
I live in Fridley with my husband, Tyler and our two kids Lily and Chris. Being a parent is the most rewarding and hardest job I do. I love watching them learn new things and get creative. Their goofy sense of humor cracks me up. My family is also supportive and the best group of cheerleaders I could ask for.
Tell us about your favorite places to go with your kids? Restaurants, roads trips, parks etc.
You will often find us on the Mississippi River close to our house fishing, looking for cool bugs and rocks. We love to travel up to our cabin near Lake Itasca and explore the woods. We also love walking down to the nearby Dairy Queen, going to Hazels Northeast and Sea Salt Eatery in the summer.
Anything else you want to share?
You can find us at the Minnesota State Fair! Our booth is located in the West End Market near the Heritage Center. You will find me and my husband there almost every day. Sometimes there may be a kiddo or two helping out behind the counter. We love seeing our repeat customers in their kiddo or adult Sweetpea goods.
