You’re a mother, but you are still your own person. You have thoughts, feelings, and goals outside of the day-to-day tasks of managing your household.
It’s essential that you understand your feelings as they come. There might be times when they feel uncontrollable or different from usual. This is normal as your body has undergone so many changes during postpartum. On other days you might feel like there is not much going through your head besides your children’s schedule and the dinner menu.
The important thing is that you let yourself feel whatever it is you feel so you can grow and work through it. Understand and be patient with yourself, as your mental health journey won’t be a straight line a lot of the time.
Plan Ahead
Another way to take care of yourself is to identify your stressors and focus on managing them.
It can feel like mothers need to stay ahead of the game at all times, which can cultivate the feeling of being under a lot of pressure. Making sure you are staying organized can aid in managing your stress. One thing I would recommend is getting some sort of planner for yourself. There are so many planners for mothers that you can personalize. When you have everything written down, you can avoid forgetting appointments and events while making sure you are not trying to prepare for anything last minute.
Take Care of Your Health and Wellness
Becoming a mom and navigating the many stages of motherhood is a constant adjustment. You now are responsible for keeping another human alive and managing their development and life as they age. Your habits have definitely changed, even if you did not notice or mean for them to.
It is very important now more than ever that you are making sure you are still getting sleep and having a solid diet, and taking care of your mind and body. Due to all of the changes in your daily routine, a lot of moms and new moms notice changes in their hormones which can significantly affect your hair health. You can combat hormonal hair loss by taking daily hair loss pills. Doing so can help regulate your hormones while increasing active hair growth.
Taking care of your health is also a huge part of this. Ensure you are drinking enough water, keeping up with your medical appointments, and getting nutritious foods into your diet. All of this can affect not only your physical health but your skin and hair health.
Take Time for Yourself
Do not let go of what you love and who you are.
If you loved hiking before becoming a mother, find a way to still do it, even if it’s smaller hikes and closer to home. If you used to be an avid reader, find time before bed to snuggle up with a book, even if it is only for 10 minutes. You must keep doing things for yourself to avoid burnout or depression in the future.
There are also plenty of new things you could try as a new mother that could improve your mental health and help you find a new hobby. One thing a lot of new mothers try is yoga. Simple Yoga poses and classes are for mothers and will help your mental and physical health as you navigate motherhood.
You are a mother and your own person, so remember to take care of yourself. You are not being selfish by taking time to prioritize yourself or self-care. Do something you enjoy, find a little time for yourself, and ensure you care for your mind and body.
