Broadway is joining the sensory-friendly scene with a special performance of Disney’s The Lion King at 2 p.m. Saturday July 30 at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis.
This one-time performance — geared toward people with sensory, social and learning disabilities and their families — is the first-ever sensory-friendly performance of a touring Broadway show for Minnesota, according to organizers.
Special accommodations at the July 30 performance will include lower sound levels; house lights on at a low level throughout the performance; standing and movement accommodated in spaces throughout the theater; designated quiet areas; trained volunteers and professionals on hand during the performance; and sensory supports such as fidgets, earplugs and noise-cancelling earmuffs.
Traditional performances will be offered July 5 to Aug. 7.
