About the Twin City Model Railroad Museum
Address: 668 Transfer Rd Ste. 8, St Paul, MN 55114
If you have a kid who loves trains—or maybe you’re a lifelong rail fan yourself—the Twin City Model Railroad Museum is a must-visit. Tucked away in Saint Paul, this 11,000-square-foot space is packed with interactive model train layouts, railroad artifacts, and hands-on exhibits that make history come alive for all ages.
This museum is designed for guests of all ages, from toddlers to lifelong train enthusiasts. Kids 4 and under get in free, and wooden train play tables keep little ones entertained while older kids (and parents) marvel at the intricate displays.
Explore Interactive Train Exhibits
With 16 featured exhibits, the museum has something for everyone. Little engineers will love seeing the Thomas the Tank Engine layout. This interactive exhibit ensures kids can have a hand in helping Thomas and his friends! Afterward, don’t miss the impressive LEGO Train Layout. For kids (and parents!) who love amusement park rides, the Amusement Park Layout, complete with tiny roller coasters and Ferris wheels, will undoubtedly be a hit.
Train lovers of all ages can also admire the impressive O-scale layout, a 30′ x 50′ model of the Twin Cities area. Parents can point out historic landmarks like the Stone Arch Bridge and waterways like the Mississippi River along the route. There is even a professionally built toy train layout! Plus, many exhibits have buttons to push, levers to pull, and moving parts to engage curious minds.
Circus Trains
The Circus Trains feature a massive 60+ foot O-scale train with colorful animal cars, wagons, and a lively parade and unloading show on a detailed layout. Inspired by Circus World Museum, this family-friendly exhibit also includes additional circus-themed train displays in multiple scales during the months of April and September.

A Magical Holiday Tradition: Night Trains
The museum transforms into a twinkling winter wonderland for Night Trains from October through February. As the lights dim, miniature streetlamps glow, tiny towns sparkle with snow, and holiday-decorated trains pass through beautifully lit layouts.
Special event nights include a visit from Santa, making them a holiday tradition your family will not want to miss.
