10 Creative Ways to Celebrate Halloween as a Family
Halloween is an exciting time of the year. It is the perfect opportunity to combine fun and learning, spend quality time together as a family, and create Halloween traditions.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

A fun family activity is visiting local farms, nurseries, or pumpkin patches to pick a pumpkin to carve. It is a wonderful opportunity to spend time together outdoors. You may even get a few family photos, too.

Decorate or Carve a Pumpkin

There are so many ways to decorate a pumpkin. You can do the traditional carving of a pumpkin, or if you are concerned about the safety of carving your pumpkin, you can paint the pumpkin, decorate your pumpkin with stickers, or glue buttons, feathers, googly eyes, or other artsy items onto your pumpkin. Get creative and come up with fun ways to decorate your pumpkin.

Investigate the Insides of a Pumpkin

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math opportunities are all around us. Simple items like pumpkins provide a wide range of exploration opportunities for your child to learn about the scientific method, enhance their math skills, develop engineering skills, use tools, and boost their creativity. It is simple; just use our investigation mat to explore the pumpkin with your little pumpkin!
Use our SciKids at New Horizon Academy Pumpkin STEAM Investigation Sheet to begin the exploration.

Do Spooky Science Experiments

Create a pumpkin volcano using materials you have around the house.

Do your kids love slime? We do too! Grab those old decorative pumpkins and get ready to get your hands sticky. This easy pumpkin slime science experiment is fun for all ages!

Bake Spooktacular Treats

Put on your apron and bake up your favorite spooktacular treats. We understand baking with your child takes a little more time, a lot more patience, and involves extra clean up, but it is worth it! Cooking boosts language development, fine motor skills, and math abilities, introduces complex scientific concepts, teaches life skills, and creates lasting memories that both you and your child will treasure.

Decorate Your House

From hanging up your Halloween decorations to creating your own, your child is sure to enjoy decorating the house for Halloween.

Put on Your Dancing Shoes and Boogie

Set the stage by adding streamers, colorful lights, or other fun decorations. Dress up with special dancing clothes, props, costumes, and glow-in-dark bracelets.

Cozy Up Around the Fire and Tell Spooky Stories

Grab a few blankets, cozy up around the fire, and tell spooky or not-so-spooky stories.
