Como Town’s foam party

We finally made it out to Como Town to experience its foam party, a fun attraction during the summer that runs through Labor Day. And oh, did the kids ever love it!

The foam parties are free and occur three times a day — at 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm. They last about 15 minutes. (There’s also no admission fee to enter Como Town, though the rides cost money.)

The girls have always loved all things bubble. To be allowed to dive into a massive pool of foam and frolic around — well, they were in hog heaven.

Maria had a look of disbelief when she first stepped in.

Two foam machines produce the foam, which accumulates on soft pea gravel.

Best of all, the foam is safe and nontoxic. It didn’t irritate the kids, even when it landed on their eyelashes. And it dried shortly after the party had ended. No need to pack back-up clothes!

It was such a fun scene — ideal for toddlers and preschoolers, although older kids enjoyed it too. My mom remarked that it felt like we’d been transported into another world.

While we were at Como Town, the girls and their beloved cousin Joseph enjoyed lots of rides. I had forgotten how many toddler-friendly options they have.

Later we took in the Blooming Butterflies exhibit near the carousel, which also runs through Labor Day. The flowers alone are reason to visit, and the butterflies were exquisite — 50 species numbering around 700 total.

After an action-packed day at Como Town, the exhibit had a tranquil environment, inviting us to slow down and sit a while. Isn’t that the point of Labor Day?

Enjoy the long weekend!
