We had a marvelous time exploring the Mill City Farmers Market in Minneapolis.
Perched on the banks of the Mississippi, with the Stone Arch Bridge as the backdrop, this is a bustling market for the whole family. It’s open every Saturday through October from 8 am to 1 pm.
The girls asked to wear their Sue-Sue’s dresses, which must have struck them as the most farmers-market-y. They received approximately 1 million compliments on the frocks, which are made of vintage upcycled fabric.
They sampled maple syrup and salami, admired the flowers, inhaled the lavender oils, pet the dogs (with permission) and cooled off with fresh-squeezed lemonade.
Archie hung out in the carrier, tucked under his sun hat.
After strolling through the market, we rested at the feet of a folk band whose whimsical sound perfectly matched the scene. This is what a Saturday morning in the summer should entail.
The sights and smells were rich, but most of all, I appreciated the varied textures. Wool rugs. Spiky sunflowers. Shiny tomatoes. Lumpy cucumbers.
It felt like stepping into the Eric Carle book I had read the girls the day before.
Ahhh, Summer. We’re savoring you.
