It’s my party: Keep on truckin

The fire station birthday party is a hit with the kids

When Jan Merrell of Mounds View celebrated her son, Tyler’s third birthday, she held it at the local fire department. The community outreach fire fighter read a book to the kids, taught them about fire safety, and also put on her fire fighter gear for maximum impact. The children also got to try it on. The kids received a tour of the firehouse and then had the opportunity to climb around on the fire truck.

For party favors, Jan cut an old black garden hose apart and taped on strips of metallic paper for a makeshift fire hose, each kid received a red fire hat, and also received Dalmation dog stickers and a fire badge sticker.  She outdid herself by baking and assembling a three-dimensional fire truck cake with Jolly Rancher headlights and a stick of gum for the license plates (she wrote her son’s name on the stick of gum with permanent marker).  The kids had a blast and the parents raved about how fun it was too!
