To the editor:

As a parent and teacher at Bright Water Montessori, I was thrilled to see the familiar faces in your article on Montessori Education in the October issue. All of the photos used were of children from our school, whom I know very well. However, it is necessary to point out that Bright Water is not in St. Paul as your article says in the second paragraph but North Minneapolis, and Jasper Hoff is actually 4 years old. Also Bright Water Montessori is probably the only Montessori Preschool in the state with a student population, as well as staff, which is truly diverse. Given that the depth of diversity in our student population spans race, culture, economics, and family structure, it was disappointing not to see this reflected in photographs. From the photos in the article, the reader would never get the sense that 65 percent of our students are children of color. We are proud of the diversity of our student body, staff, and board of directors, as well as of the fact that this diversity is a true reflection of the universality of the Montessori Method.
