For nearly 40 years, Red Balloon Bookshop has been a beloved destination for families in the Twin Cities, offering a welcoming space where kids and adults can connect with the joy of reading. Located on historic Grand Avenue in Saint Paul, this independent, woman-owned bookstore offers more than just books—it’s a place where imaginations are sparked, and families come together over stories.
The bookstore’s expansive selection includes books for all ages, from board books for infants to novels for teens and adults. But Red Balloon doesn’t stop there. The bookshop also offers a collection of toys, games, and gifts that tie into children’s literature. Whether you’re searching for a birthday gift, a new bedtime story, or a fun puzzle, you’re sure to find something special.
Red Balloon is also known for its weekly storytimes, a must for families with young kids! Every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 am, Storytellers Kelly and Angela host free, engaging sessions featuring stories, rhymes, and interactive fun. These sessions are especially ideal for infants and toddlers (ages 0-3), but all ages are welcome. On nice days, the storytime spills outside, offering a charming way to enjoy the weather while introducing your little ones to the joy of reading.
For older kids, the Teens Read Book Club is a fantastic way to discover new and upcoming books. Open to teens in 8th through 12th grade, this club lets participants choose an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of a book not yet available to the public. Then, they meet once a month to discuss it. It’s a fun way for teens to stay ahead of the reading curve and connect with other book-loving peers.

- Parking: Parking is available in the Red Balloon lot behind the store and in the nearby public lot. You can also park on the street in front of the store or use the parking ramp at the corner of Victoria and Grand (fees may apply).
