“SCHOOL OF ROCK” was a HIT!

Stillwater is a beautiful river community and they continue to impress us with new restaurants, stores, and things to do. We recently went there to see School of Rock and when we got the tickets, I thought it was inside the Zephyr Theatre. When we got there, I realized they set the theater up outside along the river. How cool is that!

The show was incredible! We are big fans of Jack Black, so we have seen the movie, School of Rock, many times, and this production blew us away! The actors did such a great job! They were fun, talented, and had so much fun in the show. We enjoyed it from the beginning to the end and are glad we could go!

The ending was a blast! We sang and danced along with the show and it was the perfect was to end the show.

A couple of tips!

  1. GA Seats:  The setup is outdoors, and the seats are divided into three sections. The general admission tickets are to the right and left of the stage, but there is not a bad seat in the house. It is helpful to get there early to grab your seat.
  2. Get there Early: We grabbed a bite to eat at QuickFire Pizza along Main St and then made our way to Candyland for show snacks! It was so much fun for all of us!

Broadway comes to the banks of the St. Croix, July 21-25, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m.

The St. Croix River is standing in for The Great White Way this July when Stillwater’s beloved  Zephyr Theatre  presents a professional outdoor production of  School of Rock – The Musical  right by the Lift Bridge. With a starry cast, rock music from the movie and new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber, as well as cocktails, lights and Broadway al fresco fun, this will be the most unique theater experience of the season — summer evenings from July 21-28.

“We’re so thrilled to bring ‘School of Rock’ to the stage—everyone loves the cult movie classic starring Jack Black. Our production features Reed Sigmund as Dewey Finn, Jen Burleigh-Bentz as Rosalie, as well as a cast of professional kids including Huxley Westemeier from the touring Broadway show,” says Calyssa Hall, executive director of The Zephyr Theatre and co-director of the show with Randal Berger. “We’re building a 1000-seat amphitheater on the river by the Stillwater Lift Bridge to showcase this incredible production. After the success of last year’s outdoor ‘Mamma Mia!’ we expanded the number of shows, and anticipate ‘School of Rock’ will sell out just as fast. It’s a can’t-miss summer event.”

The show follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who decides to earn some extra cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. He then turns his class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

Andrew Lloyd Webber produced the stage musical on Broadway and London’s West End, penning 14 new numbers for the show, in addition to all the original songs from the movie. The songs “You’re in the Band” and “Stick it to the Man” are well on their way to becoming rock-solid standards, while the finale “Teacher’s Pet” brings audiences to their feet. The script was written by Julian Fellowes, creator of “Downton Abbey.” “School of Rock” ran on Broadway from 2015-2019 and on the West End from 2016-2020.
