Lions Volunteer Park in Hugo, Minnesota’s Newest Park

The newest playground in Minnesota, Lions Volunteer Park, recently opened in Hugo, MN. This playground is a destination, inclusive playground meeting the needs and desires of multiple age groups, abilities, and challenge levels.

The park offers a safe and enchanting play area, and it features ornamental fencing, two gateway entrances, and a perimeter tot path.

The play equipment includes a prominent central play structure, hill-side activities, zip lines, swings, independent play areas, sensory play, music activities, and sand play.

A sand play area. Many new parks don’t include sand play so we LOVE this inclusion at the park. Sand play is particularly beneficial for developing a sense of textures and how the contrast is in different items throughout nature (sand, grass, leaves, bark, etc).

A smaller toddler area located at the top of the play area is perfect for little kids wanting to hang out with their older siblings.

The Fit Core Extreme Obstacle Course area includes a linear challenge/fitness course for ages 13 and older.

The building has an indoor-outdoor feel and offer expansive views of park from three sides. Restrooms are accessible on the exterior of the building to all park users.  Adjacent outdoor spaces include multiple areas for gatherings (birthday parties!) including a picnic shelter, gas fire pit, and seating areas.

A double pickleball court, tennis court, outdoor fitness equipment, and half-court basketball can be found at the park.

Lions Volunteer Park is located at 5524 Upper 146th St N, Hugo, MN 55038.
