It’s Monster Fun (and More) at Minnesota Children’s Museum this Summer

There’s always something new to discover at Minnesota Children’s Museum, and this summer is no exception. In addition to the laser maze, the pretend town, the water table and everything else you love, there are three new areas you’ll want to check out during your next visit.

Monsters on Summer Vacation

Friendly monsters have taken over the museum! This new special exhibit, developed by the team at Minnesota Children’s Museum, opened June 8 and it’s already proving to be a big hit. Whether it’s climbing and squeezing through the monster obstacle course, showing off your moves on the monster dance floor or feeding foam “food” to a giant monster until it sneezes, this exhibit is pure fun and excitement.

Of course, there’s always a layer of playful learning in every Minnesota Children’s Museum exhibit, and this is no exception. The entire exhibit has an underlying goal of helping kids build and strengthen their social and emotional skills in fun ways, providing opportunities to practice naming and processing your feelings and emotions.

It wouldn’t be a monster takeover if everything was confined to just one gallery. Be on the lookout for monster-themed surprises all over the fourth floor including monster sound machines and a soundproof booth aptly named the “Scream Booth.” Monsters on Summer Vacation is open through Labor Day.

 The Mud Zone

Roll up your sleeves and get ready for some muddy, messy fun in The Backyard! One of the museum’s most popular experiences from last year, The Mud Zone, has returned for another summer.

Start at Mud Headquarters and experiment with mixing dirt and water to create different types of mud. Then bring that mud over to the mud kitchen, where you can choose from dozens of bowls, pans and kitchen utensils to create whatever you can dream up. (Mud pie, anyone?)

Be sure to try out one of the four mud catapult stations, each with its own monster target to take aim at. This sensory-rich experience can be found in The Backyard all summer.

The Studio Gets a Makeover

The maker space is always a favorite stop for museum visitors. This popular gallery just reopened with a completely new look. The big center island was removed to give the space a more open feel, and the large worktables have been replaced with smaller seating areas and a counter space for special programming.

These updates make The Studio an even better space for visitors to express their creativity and explore interesting new materials. And don’t worry, the gallery will continue to bring new activities every few months. This summer, The Studio will feature a create-your-own monster activity that kids are sure to love.

All three of these new experiences and lots more are waiting for you to explore this summer. Even better – it’s all included with regular admission. Plan your summer visit now and save on admission when you buy tickets online ahead of time. Or, become a member and get free museum admission for your entire family for a full year!
