-ISBN: 0060557680

Within the last couple of years, HarperCollins Publishers has introduced their MathStart series-giving readers of all levels a fun alternative to learn basic math concepts. The three levels in the MathStart series covers a multitude of mathematical concepts for the earliest readers (ages 3 and up) to more advanced students (ages 7 and up).

In this Level 1 book, young readers follow a little boy through an entire 24 hours. Simple illustrations depict each event happening at every hour. In addition to providing a traditional clock face depicting the time on each page, the book includes a digital reading of the time as well. The book clearly defines a.m. versus p.m.

Like all MathStart series books, It's About Time! Includes additional activities and resources that will help adults help children learn to tell time.

The Flea's Sneeze
-Lynn Downey
Illustrated by Karla Firehammer
Henry Holt & Company
-$6.95
-ISBN: 0805077561

Remember the books of your childhood that you wanted to read over and over again? The Flea's Sneeze will become one of those books for today's young children. The delightful illustrations are the perfect background to the fun repetition and finger-tapping, rhythmic prose.

A poor flea, grappling with a cold, sneezes-causing quite a commotion among the many other animals in the old red barn. Just when things have quieted down and the flea has fallen asleep, the young hog feels a sneeze coming on-leading the reader to imagine the whole ruckus will begin again. While the book is written for ages 3 and up, it will surely become a favorite for the younger set.

Meet Wild Boars
-Meg Rosoff
Illustrated by Sophie Blackall
Henry Holt & Company
-$15.95
-ISBN: 0805074880

The number of children's books written about animals ranges in the thousands. Store shelves are overflowing with the traditional favorites-bunnies, bears, dogs, and fish. But wild boars? While the humorous illustrations within this book provide a "lovable" feel to these animals, the readers soon realize the truth behind these "boarish" friends.

Repetitive text, simple language, and larger-size print provides the perfect opportunity to practice reading skills with younger children.
