The Best Copycat Shamrock Shake Recipe

When March rolls around there is one spot I love to roll through…the drive-thru lane at McDonald’s for their Shamrock shake. Since our family has continued to grow it makes more sense to make this shake at home and to save some (lucky) coin. Here is our take on the Shamrock shake.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1-pint vanilla ice cream
  • ½ cup half and half (we use Kemps)
  • 5 drops mint extract
  • 4 drops green food coloring (totally optional, for color only)
  • whipped cream optional, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Combine ice cream, half and half, mint extract, and food coloring in a blender and mix for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Pour into glasses.
  • Top with whipped cream, if desired.
  • Enjoy

  1. I have a great adult version of a Shamrock shake and it’s called a Grasshopper!! 🙂 My recipe for a pitcher of Grosshoppers is: fill your blender half full with vanilla ice cream, 4 shots of creme de mint, 4 shots of creme de cacao and top off with crushed ice. Blend! Enough for 4 drinks or so…I take the extra and pour it into Zipsicles sleeves for some adult “boozicles” to keep in the freezer.
